Women get more discount than men

Yes!, you will be surprised to know that men should be 60 years old and women should have completed 58 years to avail the benefits offered by the Railways. Male passengers are given 40 per cent on discount as senior citizens while women passengers get 50 per cent concession in the ticket fares.

This discount is facilitated to senior citizens in all trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Mail and Express. If a senior citizen does not want to avail this facility, he/she can also refuse to take advantage of this benefit.

Senior citizens can take a discount in train ticket fare in two ways. They should select senior citizens option while filling up the form for reservation by visiting the Senior Citizen's ticket counter. While booking tickets, they will have to keep a certificate of their age. The other way is through online booking, Prior to booking the ticket online, you will be asked whether you want any kind of rebate. You have to choose the option while booking your ticket. When you are asked which category you want an exemption, you should choose the option of being a senior citizen.
