Signed with HAL Bangalore, the agreement also encompasses Operational Role Equipment, Engineering Support Package (ESP), and Performance Based Logistics (PBL), marking a comprehensive augmentation of the ICG's capabilities.
In a bid to bolster its operational prowess, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has inked a significant contract for the acquisition of nine Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) Mk-III, equipped with cutting-edge technology and operational enhancements.
The contract, valued at Rs 4079.78 crore, includes an Indigenous Content (IC) of 61.07 per cent and falls under the Buy (Indian - IDDM) Category. Signed with HAL Bangalore, the agreement also encompasses Operational Role Equipment, Engineering Support Package (ESP), and Performance Based Logistics (PBL), marking a comprehensive augmentation of the ICG's capabilities.
The ALH Mk-III helicopters, boasting a weight of 5500 kg All-Up-Weight (AUW) each, surpass currently utilized airborne platforms with their state-of-the-art features. These twin-engine helicopters exhibit versatile capabilities, enabling them to execute Maritime Security Missions from both airfields and platforms afloat.
Their deployment is poised to substantially bolster the ICG's capacity to safeguard artificial islands, offshore terminals, fishermen, marine environments, and enforce maritime laws. Moreover, they are slated to play a pivotal role in Anti-Piracy measures and Visit Board Search & Seize (VBSS) operations, further fortifying India's maritime security apparatus.
The acquisition underscores India's commitment to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, emphasizing the imperative of indigenization in defence manufacturing. By prioritizing the development of indigenous capabilities, the nation aims to achieve self-reliance and reduce dependency on foreign imports, thereby bolstering its strategic autonomy.
With this strategic move, the Indian Coast Guard is poised to elevate its operational effectiveness, ensuring enhanced vigilance and protection of India's maritime interests. The acquisition of the ALH Mk-III helicopters heralds a new era in India's maritime security paradigm, reinforcing its resolve to safeguard its vast coastal waters and territorial integrity.
