India COVID-19 daily update, April 18, 2023: India has recorded 7,633 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases have increased to 61,233, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday. The death toll has increased to 5,31,152 with 11 deaths. While four deaths were reported from Delhi, one each was reported from Haryana, Karnataka and Punjab while four fatalities were reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.47 crore (4,48,34,859) The active cases now comprise 0.14 per cent of the total infections and the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.68 per cent, the ministry said.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,42,42,474 while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.18 per cent. According to the ministry's website, 220.66 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.

COVID-19 cases in Bengaluru

New 308 Covid-19 cases being recorded in Bengaluru in the last 24 hours, and the authorities are concerned with the surge in the number. There are 1,207 active cases in the city. The 308 fresh cases in Bengaluru are the second highest this year. On April 13, 328 cases of fresh Covid cases were reported in Bengaluru against 167 discharges.

According to the latest bulletin released by the health department (till Monday evening), there are 1,904 active cases in the state. The state reported 358 new Covid cases against 529 discharges.

One death was reported in the Kalaburagi district and the positivity rate for the day rose to 8.92 per cent.

COVID-19 cases in Delhi

Delhi logged 1,017 Covid-19 cases, while the positivity rate jumped to 32.25 per cent, the highest in 15 months, according to data shared by the city government's health department.

COVID-19 cases in Mumbai

Maharashtra reported 505 Covid-19 cases, which took the tally to 81,56,344, a health department official said. Mumbai civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation on Monday has made it mandatory to wear masks in all BMC hospitals in view of the current Covid situation.

COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu

With 521 fresh Covid-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours and a test positivity rate (TPR) of 8.6 per cent, the state public health department has issued an alert to all the district health officers.
Except for Kallakurichi, Thiruvarur and Tirupattur, all other districts recorded fresh Covid cases. The total number of active cases in Tamil Nadu stands at 3,330. There were 140 new Covid cases in Chennai, 45 in Coimbatore, 44 in Kanyakumari and 31 in Tiruchi districts of Tamil Nadu. Ten districts reported new cases between 10 and 25 and 21 other districts reported cases in single digits.
