Income Tax officer suspended for harassing taxpayer
Meena was alleged to have sought illegal gratification through the taxpayer’s Chartered Accountant for favourably completing the assessment, said an official release from the I-T department.
Income Tax department has suspended DK Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax, posted at Surendranagar in Gujarat region for harassing a taxpayer in a scrutiny case.
Meena was alleged to have sought illegal gratification through the taxpayer’s Chartered Accountant for favourably completing the assessment, said an official release from the I-T department.
The statement said that audio recordings of conversations were received which stated that Mena demanded bribe to settle the case.
The department immediately handed over the case to the Vigilance Directorate of CBDT, which found serious lapses and irregularities. The official has been suspened and the matter is under investigation.
