CBDT, on Tuesday, said, "In order to facilitate the declarants who would like to file the declaration in paper form, the CBDT has issued instructions to all Principal Chief Commissioners of Income Tax across India to ensure that arrangements are made for receiving such declarations till midnight of 30-09-2016.”

To comply with this extension the board has stated that the counters will be open till midnight of the deadline and declarations can be made online as well in printed copies of the prescribed form up to midnight on September 30, 2016, the Ministry of Finance stated.

The Ministry stated that the Income Declaration Scheme (IDS) 2016 came into effect from June 1, 2016 to provide an opportunity to persons who have not paid full taxes in the past to come forward and declare their undisclosed income and assets.

The Ministry had earlier declared an extension for the filing of income tax returns to October 17 as the earlier due date which was September 30 was clashing with the IDS due date.
