Income Tax Department sends notice to Shahrukh Khan
In the government's campaign to curb the flow of black money, the Income Tax Department (I-T) has sent a notice to Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan asking him to disclose his foreign investments.
According to sources, the tax office has sought details of Khan's investments in destinations such as Bermuda, British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Dubai.
The notice was sent to the actor under Section 131 of the Income-Tax Act, which empowers tax authorities to conduct enquiries.
However, so far the I-T department is unclear about the actor's foreign investments whether he has violated tax laws and is also not sure whether the actor's foreign investments fall into black money or not.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has recently started a movement against black money and has initiated 'Income Disclosure Scheme' wherein individuals could file their income tax details which they had not disclosed earlier. The scheme will end on September 30 this year.
