Income Tax deadline Alert: Giving relief to the income tax payers amid Coronavirus lockdown, Finance Minister Nirmala Sithaman has extended the deadline for Income Tax Return (ITR) filing from 30th June 2020 to 30th November 2020. The FM also announced to extend the deadline for direct tax assessment from 30th September 2020 to 31st December 2020. She also extended the ITR filing deadline for the FY 2020-21 from 31st March 2021 to 30th September 2021. Apart from this, FM Sitharaman also announced the extension of deadline for Vivad Se Viswas up to 31st December 2020.

Speaking in a press conference in New Delhi today, Nirmala Sitharaman said, "The deadline for ITR filing for the FY 2020-21 has been extended from 31st March 2021 to 30th September 2021. The Government of India also proposes to extend the deadline for FY 2019-20 from 30th June 2020 to 30th September 2020."

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's press conference comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package (which is 10 per cent of the national GDP) for the national economy. The road-map for this stimulus package will be implemented by the Ministry of Finance.
