Amid the ongoing second wave of coronavirus pandemic in the nation, there is an important update for the bank customers. The banking hours at both the public and private lenders have been changed after the direction from Indian Banks’ Association (IBA).

As per a report by india.com, working hours at banks have been curtailed due to the ongoing rapid spread of Coronavirus. IBA has advised banks to fix working hours from 10 am to 2 pm.

IBA’s direction related to bank hours was meant for both public and private banks. The direction will remain effective tile May 31, the report added. 

That means if you want to visit a nearby branch, please remember that bank hours (10 am – 2 pm) will remain till May 31.

The banks have also been directed by IBA to provide four main services like cash withdrawals, accepting deposits, government businesses, and remittance.

IBA had further stated that the State Level Banking Committees of respective states and union territories will take stock of the situation and take a call on if any additional service will be allowed or not.

As per the directions, bank staff can be called on a rotational basis and can even be allowed to work from home. IBA suggested that ideally 50 percent of the employees can be called to the office based on rotation.

Observing the situation, several banks in the country are offering contactless services and various other offers to their customers. 

State Bank of India (SBI) is among such banks offering contactless service. It has also issued toll-free numbers 1800 112 211 or 1800 425 3800 for urgent banking services.

The bank has even asked its customers not to visit branches to submit Know Your Customer (KYC) details as they can submit KYC details via email to branch email address.

While Punjab National Bank is providing Doorstep banking to its customers for cash withdrawal.
