An orange alert has been issued for Western Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rainfall for quite a few states across the country on Monday. According to IMD’s sub-division-wise warnings, a red alert has been issued for East Rajasthan for heavy rain. Meanwhile, early morning showers on Monday in the national capital and its surrounding areas brought relief from scorching heat in Delhi-NCR.
Red alert for East Rajasthan, Sikkim and Northern West Bengal
The weather agency tweeted on Monday that the weakened cyclonic storm Biparjoy had created a depression over central parts of East Rajasthan, which was likely to move nearly east-northeastwards and maintain its intensity during the next 12 hours.
"The Depression (Remnant of CS BIPARJOY) over central parts of East Rajasthan lay at 23:30 IST of 18th June about 60 km west-northwest of Tonk, 60 km east-southeast of Ajmer. Likely to move nearly east-northeastwards and maintain its intensity of Depression during next 12 hrs," tweeted IMD.

IMD has also issued a red alert for Sikkim and the adjoining region of northern West Bengal.
Orange alert
An orange alert has been issued for Western Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh.
Yellow Alert in Delhi-NCR
Delhi witnessed light rain and thundershower in early morning on Monday. Last week, IMD had predicted that the national capital will witness thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds on June 18 and June 19.
A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
India’s weather agency relies on a system of colour-coded weather warnings for identifying and issuing warnings for adverse weather events.
This exercise essentially helps authorities to remain alert and take precautionary measures when needed. The people likely to be impacted due to extreme weather conditions can also prepare for emergencies that can wreak severe damage and disrupt daily life. It is worth noting that IMD updates its warnings daily.
