Over 26,000 people have been infected by Covid 19 despite taking first and second dose of vaccines, be it Covishield or Covaxin. Of this, 21,000 have been tested positive after the first dose and over 5500 detected with covid infection post second dose, as per ICMR data.

Indian Council of Medical Research Director General Balram Bhargava, while addressing a press conference said 0.04 per cent of people, who took the second dose of Covaxin, were positive for COVID-19, whereas 0.03 percent who took the second dose of Covishield, contracted the infection.  

The government medical research body on Wednesday released the data on the count of people, who tested positive for covid after receiving the first and second dose of vaccines - Covaxin and Covishield.  

As many as 11.6 crore doses of Covishield have been given to masses, of which, 10 crores received the first dose and 17,145 people contracted the infection.  

Similarly, at least 1,57,32,754 people were given the second dose of Covishield, of which over 5000 got infected.    

Bhargava in its address to the media said, the proportion of people testing positive is 0.02 percent after the first dose, and 0.03 percent after the second dose.  

Moreover, data portrays, as many as 5,709 people contracted the infection after the second dose of either of the two vaccines. "This is a very small number and not at all worrisome," Bhargava said.  

The central government on Wednesday said there are over 21.57 lakh active Covid cases in the country, which is double the maximum number of active cases India had last year.  

The data shows, states having more than one lakh active cases are Maharashtra (6.85 lakh), Uttar Pradesh (2.23 lakh), Karnataka (1.59 lakh), Chhattisgarh (1.26 lakh) and Kerala (1.18 lakh).
