Indian Railways has proposed to replace the existing Delhi-Allahabad Duronto Express with the Humsafar Express. A PTI report quoted a finance ministry source saying that the new Humsafar Express will commence running from September 13, 2019. The Humsafar train will run for four days a week, compared to tri-weekly schedule of the former super fast train. The Allahabad-Delhi Humsafar Express (12275) will be running on every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. For the return trip, the train will run on every Thursday, Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday.

For the convenience of the passengers, the schedule of the Humsafar Express train will be same as the Allahabad-New Delhi-Allahabad Duronto Express Train (12275/12276) Commenting on the latest developments, a senior official said that the Humsafar Express which currently runs for for days a week will soon be running for all seven days. This step will ensure standardization of the rakes. additionally, it will also help in tackling the issue of full occupancy.

Former Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee had introduced the first set of 12 non-stop trains in the 2009-2010 budget. Among these trains was the Delhi-Allahabad Duronto Express and these trains have remained one of the fastest running trains across the country till date.

However, over the course of years, Duronto trains have proved to be insufficient due to low occupancy. The conversion of the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Ajmer Sharif Duronto is one of them. The train was replaced by a Jan Shatabdi. Meanwhile, the Coimbatore-Thiruvananthapuram had been converted into a regular train.

Apart from these, the Chandigarh-Amritsar Duronto Express was converted into a super fast express and the Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Duronto Express into a Super AC express. The Howrah-Puri Duronto Express and Ajmer-Nizamuddin Duronto Express was replaced by a Shatabdi Express.
