Aadhaar card has become the most important identity proof as it has been linked with several services by the government. It is also required to file income tax returns. The 12-digit unique number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) also serves as a valid proof and is an important document for availing a government subsidy or grant.

So, it is important to have correct details on your Aadhaar card. If you have recently moved houses or notice that your address on Aadhaar card is wrong, there is no need to worry. The address on your Aadhaar card can be updated both offline and online. And, the process is really simply.  

"You can easily update your address in Aadhaar online. All you need is your registered mobile number to receive the OTP for login and a colored scan of an address proof in your name," UIDAI said in a tweet recently.

The Aadhaar card holders simply need to provide official documents for address proof. Passport, Rent agreement, bank statement or passbook, driving license, telephone bill, electricity bill, water bill, voter ID card are among the list of 44 documents, that are mentioned on UIDAI's website that can be used for valid address proof. 

Also, the users need to ensure that their number is registered with UIDAI.  

How to update address on Aadhaar card online: 

Go to the Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal on UIDAI's website 

Click on ‘Proceed to Update Address’. 

Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number or 16-digit number Virtual ID. 

Click on ‘Send OTP’ and the enter the received number. 

Click on ‘Login’ Button. 

Now, click on ‘Update Address via Address Proof’ or ‘Update Address Via Secret Code’. 

Fill in all the details that need to be corrected. 

Upload your original coloured scanned copies of address proof documents. 

Submit the request.
