For cancellation of the ticket, passengers should follow the steps given below:

3. Now select the train ticket which has to be cancelled, and click on ‘Cancel Ticket’ option
4. Select passenger/s to be cancelled and click on ‘Cancel Ticket’
5. Now confirm to cancel the train tickets by clicking on OK option

While cancelling the ticket, user should select only those passengers whose tickets have to be cancelled in case of partial cancellation of ticket, said IRCTC instruction.

In partial cancellation, passenger should get a fresh printout of the ERS for the passengers continuing their journey and if the train ticket is partially cancelled, a fresh Electronic Reservation Slip (ERS) needs to be carried by the passenger, IRCTC said.

Passengers must know that IRCTC e-tickets cannot be cancelled after preparation of train chart as IRCTC will not entertain any refund or cancellation of train tickets on cancellation of confirmed tatkal train tickets.

Notably, Indian Railways has in the past also facilitated passengers to get their confirmed train tickets, booked at counters, cancelled through phone call or SMS to 139 and claim refund for the same.

In order to cancel Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter tickets, passengers need to dial 139 and select option 6 from the main menu of Interactive Voice Recorder (IVR). They will then get a one-time password (OTP), and on validation, cancellation will be processed. Passengers have to reach the counter within stipulated time to get their refund.
