Himachal Pradesh (HP) government on Sunday announced that the state would increase the value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel prices, according to the news agency ANI.

The northern state would raise the VAT in fuel prices up to Rs 7.40 per litre. After this, the diesel prices in the state would be Rs 86 per litre.

This was informed in a notification issued by the department of state taxes and the excise government of Himachal Pradesh.

HP Cabinet Expansion

Earlier on Sunday, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expanded his Cabinet and inducted seven new ministers. The swearing-in ceremony of the new ministers took place at the Raj Bhavan in Shimla. Vikramaditya Singh, the son of Virbhadra Singh, had also taken the oath today.

With the induction of seven members, the strength of the cabinet rose to nine.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar administered oath to the newly inducted ministers in a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhawan.

Shimla district with seven MLAs has been given a lion's share in the cabinet with three ministers and one Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS), while Bilaspur, Mandi and Lahaul and Spiti failed to get any representation.
