High court puts stay order on Haryana law on 75% job quota in private sector
An interim stay was granted on Thursday by the Punjab and Haryana High Court against Haryana's law that provides 75 per cent reservation in private sector jobs for residents of the state.
An interim stay was granted on Thursday by the Punjab and Haryana High Court against Haryana's law that provides 75 per cent reservation in private sector jobs for residents of the state.
Last month, the Haryana government implemented a controversial law involving "job quotas." According to the Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act, 2020, 75% of jobs in the private sector will be reserved for locals. Additionally, it promised job seekers a salary or wages of up to Rs 30,000 per month.
Counsel for one of the petitioners, which had challenged the Act, said that the court had granted the interim stay.
For companies in the state who fear the law would affect their future business operations and investments, the order has come as a relief.
With effect from January 15, the Haryana State Employment of Local Candidates Act, 2020, ensured 75 per cent reservation to state residents applying for jobs in the private sector.
It applies to employers in the private sector, such as companies, societies, trusts, limited liability partnership firms, partnership firms, and any other person who employs ten or more people for manufacturing, carrying out business, or performing any service in Haryana.
