Here are 10 iconic places govt will clean under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
In its attempt to clean historic places of India, the BJP-led government has decided to take 10 iconic heritage, spiritual and cultural places under its 'Swachh Bharat Mission' in Phase-1.
Later on, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation will conduct clean up drive of 90 other iconic places.
PM Modi started the Swachh Bharat Mission on October 2, 2014, with an aim to cover cities, towns, areas, roads and infrastructure of the country.
The aim of 'Swachh Bharat Mission' initiative is to make the 100 places model ‘Swachh Tourist Destinations’, that will enhance the experience for visitors from India and abroad.
In the Phase-1, the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has decided to clean up following 10 iconic places:
1. Vaishno Devi: Jammu and Kashmir
2. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus: Maharashtra
3. Taj Mahal: Uttar Pradesh
4. Tirupati Temple: Andhra Pradesh
5. Golden Temple: Punjab
6. Manikarnika Ghat: Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh
7. Ajmer Sharif Dargah: Rajasthan
8. Meenakshi Temple: Tamil Nadu
9. Kamakhya Temple: Assam
10 Jagannath Puri: Odisha
To conduct this campaign, the Water Ministry will coordinate with the Ministry of Urban Development, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and the concerned State governments.
Once the clean up of these 10 places is completed, the ministry will integrate lessons and experiences learned from Phase-1 into the clean-up campaign for the remaining 90 sites.
