Delhi weather: Heavy rain to subside in next few days, says IMD
The heavy downpour in Delhi is expected to ease, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers expected on Tuesday, July 10. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that the intensity of the rain will subside in the next few days and normal monsoon weather will prevail in Delhi
The heavy downpour that recently flooded Delhi is set to subside, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD). The city's residents can expect a cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers on Tuesday, with temperatures ranging from a comfortable 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.
According to Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of IMD's regional weather forecasting centre, the high-intensity rains are expected to end in the next few days. Over the next week the national capital is expected to receive very light to light rain while normal monsoon rain is expected for the rest of the week in Delhi, according to IMD.
Waterlogging in Delhi following heavy rain
According to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) monsoon report, 23 complaints of waterlogging across the city were received on Monday. These areas include Khirki Extension, Kirti Nagar furniture market, Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Budh Nagar, Prem Nagar, and Banda Bahadur Marg. Fallen trees were reported in areas like Anand Vihar D Block, East of Kailash, Miranda House in Delhi University (DU) North Campus, Ashok Niketan, and Naraina.
The Delhi Traffic Police received 13 additional complaints of waterlogging from other areas. All government and MCD schools in Delhi remained closed on Monday and Tues due to disruptions caused by heavy rain.
Residents in the city took to social media to share photos and videos of inundated roads during the weekend’s torrential downpour. At the same time, the heavy rains turned several areas of the city into rivers and floodplains.

Indian Railways cancels many trains due to heavy rain
The inclement weather also disrupted trains services on Monday and Tuesday. Approximately 24 trains running on the Delhi-Ambala route were cancelled on July 10 due to heavy rain, according to Northern Railway.
Delhi receives record rainfall
Delhi recorded its highest rainfall in a single day in July since 1982 on Sunday. According to IMD, Delhi received 153 mm rain in 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Sunday, which was the highest single day rainfall in July in the last 41 years.
Rising water levels of Yamuna river
The deluge also led to the water levels in Yamuna River to cross the danger mark of 205.33 metres. As on Tuesday, the water level breached the danger mark and touched 206.24 metres whereas the high flood level is 207.49 metres.
