Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has prohibited the sale of biscuits in the ministry and departmental meetings, according to a circular issued on Friday. Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan has asked the department to distribute only healthy snacks like roasted chana, almonds, dates and walnuts.
"The Health and Family Welfare Minister has desired that healthy snacks only to be served in official meeting and biscuits are to be avoided," Health Ministry circular stated.
Further, the circular said, "Henceforth, therefore, biscuits shall not be dispensed through the departmental canteen and healthy snacks like lahiya channa, khajoor (dates), bhuna channa (roasted channa), badam (almond) and akhrot (walnuts) will be served in the official meetings in the department."
This move of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, surely seems to be a health-conscious step for their own officials, to avoid consuming high sugar containing maida biscuits and involving the high fibers and nutritional snacks in the diet.
The ministry also prompted on its earlier order to not use plastic water bottles in the ministry and departmental meetings.
