That person is none other than Managing Director and CEO Aditya Puri, who is heading for retirement. The reason for such a significant gesture from HDFC Bank? For creating a world-class Indian bank.
Birth Place and Education Qualification of Aditya Puri
Aditya Puri is the Managing Director of India’s Largest Private Bank, HDFC Bank. He was born in 1950 (aged 70 years) in the Gurdaspur city of Punjab. He gained his Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Punjab University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Career
Aditya Puri has more than 4 decades of experience in the Banking sector, both in India and in other countries. He started his career as a management trainee in Mahindra ltd. He worked with Citibank for 21 years, and during that period, he worked in 19 countries. In 1992, he became the CEO of Citibank in Malaysia. He returned to India as a Managing Director in 1994. During his tenure as MD of HDFC Bank, he led 2 major mergers in the banking industry i.e. merger of Times Bank and Centurion Bank of Punjab with HDFC Bank.

He likes reading, gardening and watching TV in his free time. While working as a management trainee with Mahindra Ltd in Mumbai, he lived as a paying guest and paid a rent of Rs 300 per month. He asked his cousin who was working with Citibank to fix his interview, after which he was interviewed and got the job with Citibank. Deepak Parekh and Aditya Puri have been good friends since college days.
