Internet Services Shutdown in Haryana: Due to the farmers' agitation in Karnal, the Haryana government has decided to suspend mobile internet and SMS services in the district till 11.59 PM.

News agency ANI has informed about this decision of the Haryana government from its official Twitter handle. The tweet said, "In view of farmers' agitation in Karnal, Haryana Govt suspends mobile internet & SMS services in the district "to stop the spread of misinformation"; the order to remain in effect till 11:59 pm today."

An ANI report also informed that the Haryana government announced the suspension of the internet services in the Karnal district from 12.30 AM on September 7, 2021, ahead of a mahapanchayat and a call to gherao the mini-secretariat in protest against the police lathicharge against the farmers on August 28, 2021.

According to the order issued by the Department of Home Affairs, Government of Haryana, "In order to stop the spread the spread of misinformation and  rumours through various social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter etc. on mobile phones and SMS, for facilitation and mobilisation of mobs of agitators and demonstrators who can cause serious loss of life and damage to public and private properties by indulging in arson or vandalism and other types of violent activities."

The order further states that it has been issued to prevent any disturbance of peace and public order in the jurisdiction of district Karnal from 7 AM till 11.59 PM today.

It has to be noted that this order has been passed ex-parte in view of the emergent situation and any person found guilty of violation of the order will be liable to legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
