Every year World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 across the globe. It is one of the biggest events organized by the United Nations (UN) with an aim to generate awareness about the significance of nature.

World Environment Day: History

The United Nations Assembly established World Environment Day after discussions on environment-related issues during the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment in 1972. Then two years later in 1974, the day was first observed in the United States.

World Environment Day: Theme

The theme for year`s World Environment Day is 'Ecosystem Restoration.' This year will also mark the formal launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030.

While you can also know that the theme of the first World Environment Day was `Only One Earth`.

Also, this year Pakistan, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), will be the global host for the day to highlight the importance of ecosystem restoration.
