Indian Railways, to ensure easy availability and accessibility of sanitary napkins for female passengers, installed the Happy Nari vending machine  on Wednesday at the Bhubaneswar railway station. This train station becomes the second one to install the 'Happy Nari' vending machine after Bhopal introduced this facility in month of January. Happy Nari was installed at the Bhubaneswar railway station by the East Coast Railway Women's Welfare Organisation (ECoRWWO) on Monday.

The machine was reportedly installed inside the 2nd class ladies waiting hall on Platform No 1, anybody can get a napkin by inserting a Rs 5 coin only, Madhulika Singh president of the ECoRWWO said.

"The effort is to ensure comfortable and dignified journey for women train passengers," Singh reportedly added.

In Bhubaneswar, the price of one napkin is fixed at Rs 5. ECoRWWO will bear the total cost of installation of this machine which was just Rs 16,000.

On January 1, 2018 , as a new year's gift to women passengers, Bhopal junction railway station inaugurated the facility, jointly initiated by the Railway Women Welfare Association and a local NGO, Aarushi.

A woman can get two sanitary napkins at a cost of Rs 5 only at these two stations. It has the capacity to provide 75 napkins.

In Bhopal, since the response was excellent, the machine is usually refilled 8 to 9 times, and throughout the day over 600 napkins are being dispensed from the machine.

The government plan comes as a helping hand for female passengers at an affordable cost.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, earlier, launched a scheme called as 'Khushi', wherein, under 17 lakh school girls from standard 6 to 12 can avail the sanitary napkins free of cost.
