Habibganj is set to become first private railway station in India; railways awards contract to Bansal Group
In order to revamp Habibganj station in Bhopal under public-private partnership on par with international standards, Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation has awarded the contract to local firm Bansal Group for a period of eight years.

Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) has announced to revamp Habibganj station located in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, which is set to become the first railway station to be built under public-private partnership on par with international standards, Business Today reported.
The railways has given the contract to local firm Bansal Group to build, maintain and operate the Habibganj station for eight years, it said.
According to the report, the company has been allotted four land parcels on a 45-years lease.

To revamp the Habibganj station, Rs 100 crore is being invested and the additional four land parcels will be developed into commercial spaces with a budget of Rs 350 crore, it said. The total area adds up to 17, 245 square meters.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu will inaugurate the redevelopment work of Habibganj station on June 9 this year.
The Habibganj station will be converted into a world-class transit hub which will have shopping stores, restaurants, eateries, parking lots, among others.
The station will be powered by solar energy and it will have facilities for differently-abled people.
The transit hub at Habibganj sation is said to be designed in such a manner that, in case of an emergency, passengers can evacuate the area within four minutes, cited the report.
Moreover, the Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation (IRSDC) is set to revamp stations like Anand Vihar, Brijwasan, Chandigarh, Gandhinagar and Shivaji Nagar station in Pune, the report said.
