Gujarat, Himachal assembly elections dates: The Election Commission of India is likely to hold press conference at 3 p.m. today (October 14) to announce the poll dates for the assembly polls in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
Gujarat assembly elections
The term of the Gujarat Assembly ends on February 18, 2023. In the 182-member House in Gujarat, there are 111 BJP and 62 Congress MLAs. More than 4.90 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming Assembly elections in Gujarat. 11.62 lakh are new voters including 4.61 lakh first-time voters.
The EC recently allowed those above 17 years of age to apply in advance to register as voters once they turn 18.
The Assembly elections are due in December this year in which ruling BJP is aiming at another term. Congress and the AAP are trying to pose a challenge to the ruling party.
Himachal Pradesh assembly elections
The term of the Himachal House ends on January 8, 2023. The BJP has 45 MLAs in the House, while Congress has 20 in Himachal Pradesh. In the bypolls held in the state on October 30 last year, the BJP had lost the Mandi parliamentary seat and three Assembly seats of Fatehpur, Arki, and Jubbai-Kothkai to the Congress.
