How government wants to use UID verification to tighten noose on telecom scammers
Through UID verification, it will be easy to know how many SIM cards are there in a users name and where they are being used.
UID to be Used to Stop Telecom Fraud: If we look at every fraud, the modes of cheating through links using SIM card/fake ID/fake verification or network are commonly used. The government wants to curb it and has been considering various measures to achieve its goal.
To curb this menace, the government will bring the UID verification rule to stop fraud on telecom network.
With UID, the customer will be able to get all the details at one place.
Through this, it will be easy to know how many SIM cards are there in a user's name and where they are being used.
Also, if the user wants to close a particular number, it will be easy for them.
In connection with the reforms, the biggest benefit of this change will be that it would be easier for the government to track the issue/getting of fake SIM cards and the issues exceeding the prescribed limit.
According to the fixed limit, till now a maximum of 9 SIMs can be issued by a user on one ID. The government is also considering reducing it to a maximum of 4.
Till now, the government and agencies have been following a manual process to check the connections issued in excess of the limit.
Recently, during a special conversation with Zee Business, Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that his priority was to stop frauds using the telecom network.
