Government is likely to extend deadline for filing GSTR-1 from December 31 to January 10, said CNBC TV 18 citing sources.

Last month, the GST council had extended the deadline for filing of GST returns till December 31.

The Finance Ministry, however, has advised traders not to wait for the last day, but do it now. First of all, the filing of return is mandatory under the GST, even if there is nil return.

What is GSTR-1
It is the record of all sales. Under this form, the suppliers will report their outward supplies during the reporting month. According to the norm, all the registered taxable persons are required to file GSTR-1 by the 10th of the following month.
