The prices of petrol and diesel are showing a difference of nearly Rs 9.5 per liter and Rs 7 per liter respectively on Sunday. This comes after the government on Saturday announced a central excise duty cut on the fuel prices in order to give relief to the common man amid higher costs.

The finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman through a Twitter handle announced that the government to slash central excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per liter and on diesel by Rs 6 per liter.

She added, “With a reduction in central excise duty on fuel, this will ease the price of petrol by Rs 9.5 per liter and of diesel by Rs 7 per liter, which will have a revenue implication of around Rs 1 lakh crore per year for the government.”
