Government appoints 37 new High Court Judges ahead of 15th August, Independence Day 2022

The Narendra Modi government has appointed 37 new high court judges just ahead of the 76th anniversary of India’s Independence day being celebrated on 15 August, Monday.
On 13 August, 2022, Friday the government appointed 26 High Court Judges in the High Courts of Allahabad, Andhra, Telangana, Gauhati, Orissa & Himachal Pradesh, a Government release said. A day later on 14 August, it appointed another 11 High Court Judges in the Punjab & Haryana High Court.
Till now in 2022, the government has so far made 138 appointments in various High Courts of the country thus surpassing its earlier record of 126 High Court appointments in the year 2016, the release said. Last year i.e. 2021, the appointment tally in High Courts was 120 in addition to 9 appointments in the Supreme Court. Thus, the entire appointment process in higher judiciary has been put on a fast track, the release claimed.
The 11 appointments made on Sunday in the High Court of Punjab & Haryana includes the names Nidhi Gupta, Sanjay Vashisth, Tribhuvan Dahiya, Namit Kumar, Harkesh Manuja, Aman Chaudhary, Naresh Singh, Harsh Bunger, Jagmohan Bansal, Deepak Manchanda and Alok Jain, Advocates as Additional Judges of that High Court for a period of two years, with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices, the release said.
