Gorakhpur Airport: Suresh Prabhu inaugurates new domestic terminal building; CM Yogi flags off Delhi-Gorakhpur IndiGo flight
IndiGo's Gorakhpur-Delhi-Gorakhpur flight is a 70-seater aircraft that will fly on the route daily.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu today inaugurated the new domestic terminal building at Gorakhpur Airport in the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath and Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha. Earlier in the day, CM Adityanath flagged off the IndiGo Gorakhpur-Delhi-Gorakhpur flight.

"Happy to inaugurate the new Domestic Terminal building of #GorakhpurAirport along with Hon'ble CM of Uttar Pradesh, Shri @myogiadityanath, @jayantsinha MoS for CA and other dignitaries. The Delhi-Gorakhpur flight was also flagged off earlier today. Our mission - #SabUdenSabJuden," said Prabhu in a tweet.
The new building has been built over an area of 23,500 square feet and can cater up to 200 peak hours passengers, said the minister.
"The new Domestic terminal building has been constructed over an area 23,500 sqft. with an estimated cost of the Rs. 22.5 cr. It is equipped with all modern amenities and can cater up to 200 peak hours passengers," revealed Prabhu.

The new terminal will have modern amenities for fliers. The new terminal has four check-in counters, two baggage scanners, and three frisking booths.

After flagging off Gorakhpur-Delhi flight, Yogi Adityanath said that Uttar Pradesh will have 22 airports with commercial flight operations from next year.
Earlier today, Prabhu said that the government is creating new airport infrastructure and enhancing domestic air connectivity to meet the need of aviation in India.
"We are creating new airport infrastructure and enhancing domestic air connectivity across the country to meet the growing needs of our Aviation sector," Prabhu said.
The NDA government has been trying to revive the domestic aviation sector with UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik), which is a regional connectivity scheme. Under the scheme, the government had approved the proposal for revival of 50 unserved/under-served airports/airstrips of the state governments, Airports Authority of India and Civil enclaves (Defence Airports) at an estimated cost of Rs 4500 crore.
