Goa: Air India flight aborts landing at Dabolim airport! You won't believe reason why
Navy reportedly stated that INS Hansa (near Dabolim) has taken proactive measures to reduce dog menace on the runway with the employment of manpower during daylight hours adjacent to the runway to chase away dogs and birds.
Shockingly, it was stray dog menace on the runway that forced an Air India Mumbai to Goa flight to abort its landing. According to a statement issued by the Navy, "Air India flight AI 033 from Mumbai while landing in Dabolim (Goa) around 3 am on August 13 reported to ATC about the presence of dogs on the runway. The aircraft was recovered safely in 2nd approach. Being night hours, no dogs were sighted by ATC (Air Traffic Controller) & runway controller."

An MoU has also been signed with the state government under which they are to sterilise and relocate up to 200 dogs from the vicinity of the runway, the Navy added.
Daboilim airport is located in Dabolim near the city of Vasco da Gama and is about 30kms from Panaji, Goa's capital city. Built in the 1950s, Daboilim airport presently operates in a military airbase named INS Hansa. The Dabolim airport is a domestic airport from where flights leave for most major cities in India.
