Breaking the trend, Indian Origin Gita Gopinath, the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), became the first woman to feature on IMF's 'Wall Of Former Chief Economists'.
Gopinath took to twitter to share her excitement via a tweet on Thursday.

Gopinath, as First Deputy Managing Director of the IMF oversees the work of staff, represents the Fund at multilateral forums, maintains high-level contacts with member governments and Board members, the media, and other institutions, leads the Fund’s work on surveillance and related policies, and oversees research and flagship publications.
Gopinath has previously served as the Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 2019-22.
Ms. Gopinath was the John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and of Economics at Harvard University’s economics department (2005-22),
prior to joining the IMF.

She is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the Econometric Society, and a member of the Group of Thirty. She has previously served as the co-director of the International Finance and Macroeconomics program at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
Previously, the IMF named her one of the ‘top 25 economists under 45’ in 2014.
Ms. Gopinath is the recipient of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, the highest honor conferred on overseas Indians by the Government of India, and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the University of Washington.
