Ganesh Chaturthi 2022 holiday in banks: The 10-day Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganesh Puja begins today. The festival is celebrated with great zeal and fervor across India. Ganesh Chaturthi is a holiday in most of the states. Schools, colleges, government and private offices, institutions observe holiday on this day. In several states, especially in Maharashtra, Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with huge fun fare. It is believed that Lord Ganesh is a symbol of wisdom and good luck.

On the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, private and government banks will remain closed in most of the states. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)'s holiday calendar website, banks will remain closed in 9 major cities--  Bengaluru, Mumbai,  Chennai, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Panaji.

Banks will, however, remain open to the public in all major metros like Delhi and Kolkata. Banks will be closed on September 1 in some cities including in Panaji.

The RBI issues bank holidays list on its official website- https://www.rbi.org.in/. The central bank places the holidays under three categories- Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act; Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday; and Banks’ Closing of Accounts.

In the month of September, banks will remain closed for a total of 13 days.
