From e-ticket, tatkat booking to refund, know new set of rules at IRCTC; Find out
The step has been taken to bolster the online ticket reservation system and the Tatkal ticket scheme. In attempt to improve the passengers services as well as to cutback the misuse of the facility, few modifications is made recently in rules including Tatkal ticket booking system.
It seems like Indian Railways is leaving no stones unturned to revamp itself. The recent one amongst a gamut of modifications is the remodeled and fresh sets of guidelines encompassing issues like ticket bookings, problems during journey by the Indian Railways.
If sources are to be believed, this step has been taken to bolster its online ticket reservation system and the Tatkal ticket scheme. In attempt to improve the passengers services as well as to cutback the misuse of the facility, few modifications is made recently in rules including Tatkal ticket booking system.
The 2002 launched Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), gained popularity and eventually, the number of online bookings has increased dramatically. As of now, it has almost 59 lakh daily users. The e-ticketing outlet of the national carrier, www.irctc.co.in, is now achieving heights with with more than 10 lakh of online tickets being booked daily through IRCTC portal.
Have a look at the new rules
A single user Id can book maximum of six tickets. However, if the ID is Aadhaar verified, and it can book as much as 12 tickets.
Between 8:00 am and 10:00 am, during opening advance reservation period, a maximum of 2 tickets can be booked.
At one point of time, either from multiple windows of same browser or different browsers, A user can have only one login session active.
No access to Quick book functionality from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.
User personal information including user name, mobile number, email etc. is asked randomly for a security purpose, in addition to Captcha code.
5 seconds has been set as a minimum input time for different input page.
25 seconds is provided to commuters to fill the passenger detail form, regardless of the number of passengers.
A minimum time check is set at 10 seconds to do the payment.
Net banking, one-time password (OTP) system is a mandatory for online mode of payments.
From 08:00 am to 08:30 am, 10:00 am to 10:30 am and 11:00 am to 11:30 am, ticket agents are prohibited to book tickets . Also, for agents’ registration, Adhaar cards are made compulsory.
IRCTC lacks the ‘refund’ rule for confirmed Tatkal tickets keeping the misuse factor in mind. However, there are certain exceptional cases in which it can be refunded:
If the passenger’s journey originating point and boarding point are different, and if the train is delayed more than 3 hours at the journey originating point of a passenger and not his boarding point.

If the passenger is not interested to travel on that diverted route taken by the train.
If both the stations, boarding station and destination, are not on the diverted route and the train is to run on diverted route
Therefore, while book train ticket at Indian Railways next time, make sure the above mentioned pointers are taken care off, because if missed you may be eligible for some penalties as well.
