Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the launch of a modified UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) scheme on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in her Union Budget 2025 speech aiming to connect 120 destinations and benefit an additional 4 crore passengers over the next 10 years.
According to the FM, the government allocated approximately Rs 1 lakh crore for urban development. "Will also facilitate greenfield airports in Bihar to meet future needs of the state, the FM said.
Here are some key highlights of the Modified UDAN scheme:
- Expansion: More cities will be connected under the UDAN scheme, with helipads and small airports to be added
- New Airport in Bihar: A new airport will be built in Bihar
- Western Kosi Canal: Financial assistance will be provided for the Western Kosi Canal project
- New Tourist Destinations: 50 new tourist destinations will be developed in collaboration with states
- Regional Air Connectivity: 120 new airports will be connected under the regional air connectivity scheme
