FAST MONEY: Hindustan Zinc, Shalby among top ten intraday trading calls
The benchmark indices are expected to open higher in trade on Thursday tracking positive trend in Asian markets where resource stocks were on a roll as oil prices hit heights not seen since late 2014. At 8:35 am, SGX Nifty was trading at 10,591.50, up 37 points or 0.35 per cent. Brent crude futures climbed another 34 cents in early trade to $73.82 a barrel, adding to a 2.7 per cent jump overnight. US crude gained 30 cents to $68.77.
The surge came on a Reuters report that OPEC’s new price hawk Saudi Arabia would be happy for crude to rise to $80 or even $100, a sign Riyadh will seek no changes to a supply-cutting deal even though the agreement’s original target is within sight.
MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan added 0.15 per cent, while E-Mini futures for the S&P 500 edged up 0.1 per cent. Wall Street had also seen hefty gains in the energy and industrial indexes, though that was offset by softness in sectors such as consumer staples and financials.
The Dow ended down 0.16 percent, while the S&P 500 gained 0.08 per cent and the Nasdaq 0.19 per cent.
On Wednesday, the Sensex ended at 34,331, down 63.38 points, while the broader Nifty50 closed at 10,537, down 11.10 points. In the broader market, the BSE Midcap remained little changed, while BSE Smallcap shed 0.3 per cent.
Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors sold scrips worth Rs 915.71 crore, while the domestic institutional investors bought stocks worth Rs 869.70 crore, provisional data with the exchanges showed.
