Failed UPSC civil services interview? Soon, you may still get a government job

The candidates who have cleared the civil services Main exam, but failed to clear the interview may still get jobs with government agencies and ministries if the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recommendations are accepted by the government. According to a report by The New Indian Express, UPSC has recommended the Central Ministries and agencies to recruit candidates who have clear the civil services exams but fail to clear the interview.  

As these candidates already go through the strict screening process, the government and other organisations may consider them for jobs, the central recruiting body recommended. It said that this will help reduce examination stress for the UPSC civil service aspirants.

UPSC is also taking steps to make the civil services examination process more candidate-friendly and the candidates will soon get an option to withdraw their application forms voluntarily, UPSC Chairman Arvind Saxena was quoted saying in the report.

He said that the objective of this move is to make candidates conscious that if they are not well prepared they should not make civil services exam attempt.  The UPSC is increasingly shifting towards computer-based tests and doing away with paper and pencil-based exams. 

Every year, nearly 11 lakh youngsters apply for civil services. Half of them appear for the preliminaries and eventually, only 600 candidates are picked up. The UPSC recommendations, if implemented, are expected to benefit a large number of candidates who take the exam every year and will also have better job prospects for them.
