The scam happens via a text message allegedly sent by the government. The fraud email claims that the Government of India is offering free laptops to all students. To which, PIB Fact Check has said that this text message is fake. The government is not running any such scheme.

Apart from that, one more message is also circulating on the social media platform claiming that the government has approved the installation of 4G/5G towers in India.
The PIB rejected any such announcement under the Government of India and called it Fake News. They also alert people to never respond to such fraudulent emails/SMS.
