After the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha Elections 2019 ended on Sunday, various news channels are airing the exit polls in collaboration with different survey agencies. Most of the exit polls results have given a clear majority to BJP+. The exit poll results telecast by Times Now-VMR gave the NDA 306 seats, while they projected 132 for the Congress-led UPA. The Republic TV-CVoter exit poll has forecast 287 and 128 seats for the NDA and UPA respectively. The NewsX-Neta exit poll predicted that the National Democratic Alliance could fall short of the majority and win 242 seats. It gave the UPA 164 seats. An exit poll on News18-Ipsos forecast that the NDA will win 292-312 seats while it gave 62-72 seats for the UPA. Another exit poll of Republic TV with Jan Ki Bat predicted that BJP+ may win 305 seats, while Congress+ will bag 124 seats. A NewsNation exit poll has predicted BJP-led NDA bagging 282-290 seats, while Congress-led UPA to get 118-126 seats.

Earlier in the day, incidents of violence in West Bengal and clashes in Punjab were reported during the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha polls on Sunday. Over 8,000 candidates were in fray for 542 Lok Sabha seats across the country in the Lok Sabha elections. The last phase, which decided the fate of 918 candidates including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, also saw EVM glitches and poll boycott at some booths.

Nearly 61 per cent voters turned out to cast their vote on Sunday in the seventh and the final phase of the Lok Sabha election held in 59 constituencies across eight states and Union Territories. The turnout figure is tentative and the final figure is expected later, the Election Commission said. 

The fate of 918 candidates, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is seeking to retain the Varanasi seat in Uttar Pradesh, will be decided in this phase. Voting took place in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chandigarh.

Over 10.01 crore voters were eligible to exercise their franchise. The Election Commission had set up more than 1.12 lakh polling stations and deployed security personnel for smooth conduct of polls.

An average of 66.88 per cent voters exercised their franchise in the last six phases and the whole elections were spread over 38 days.

Elections to 542 seats of the Lok Sabha seats ended on Sunday. The magic number i.e. the majority mark is 272. Counting of votes will be taken up on May 23.
