Industry body Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA) has written to the Ministry of Power requesting it to ensure a 24X7 power supply across the country. Sources in this telecom infrastructure providers' body have told Zee Business reporter Daanish Anand that there were several places in the country which were facing power supply crunch.
TAIPA today wrote a letter to the power ministry urging it to ensure a 24 hour electricity supply. Irregularity in power supplies is creating huge infrastructure issues for the telecom infrastructure providers especially now, when there has been a nationwide lockdown imposed by the government across the country. The association has also written to state electricity boards to give power connections at new sites on an immediate basis.

The association has also urged the electricity boards to not impose penalties on instances of late payments. Citing an example of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh, TAIPA has told the reporter that there were currently 22 such sites which have been shutdown because of late payments. TAIPA has urged for providing online payment facility.
TAIPA has said that the power supply is being discontinued on untimely payments which is disrupting the tower operations putting the customers in a lot of discomfort.
They have also sought a 45-day grace period for payment of all the dues.
The lockdown has put a lot of pressure on the telecom infrastructure as the people have been asked to work from home.
If the state electricity boards do not take action, it could lead to a further disruption of services eventually causing inconvenience to the consumers.
