Ease of Living Index 2018: Pune of Maharashtra has emerged as the number one city in the Ease of Living Index 2018 released by the government of India today. The Index was launched by Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. The survey was conducted in 111 cities of the country. Puri said that the parameters for Ease of Living Index were - Governance, social institutions, economic and physical infrastructure. Delhi has been ranked 65 in the index, while Chennai is 14th. Kolkata had refused to participate in the survey.

A ministry release today said, "The Ease of Living assessment standards are closely linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will provide a strong impetus to India’s effort for systematic tracking progress of SDGs in the urban areas. Of the 17 SDG goals, 8 goals are directly linked to India’s ease of living assessment framework with SDG 11 that is aimed at making our cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable being measured through a set of 30 indicators."
