In yet another seismic development, an earthquake of 3.3 magnitude was experienced in Maharashtra's Akola district on Tuesday evening but there were no reports of casualties or loss of property, officials said. According to the Akola district collector's office, the earthquake measuring 3.3 was felt at around 5.30 pm.

The epicentre of the low-intensity earthquake was 129 km south of Akola district in adjoining Hingoli district, said Jalindar Sable, in-charge of the local meteorological department. The epicentre was reported at 19.5 north latitude and 77.1 latitude east and at a depth of 5 km, he said. The district administration did not report any loss of life or damage to property due to the earthquake. Akola district collector Jitendra Papalkar appealed to people not to panic.

Meanwhile, a light intensity earthquake of 3.7 magnitude hit Mizoram on Tuesday, the third quake to rock the northeastern state in three consecutive days. No casualties have been reported from anywhere in the state, officials said, adding that the tremor was also felt in the state capital.

"Earthquake of magnitude:3.7; Occurred on 23-06-2020, 19:17:37 IST; Lat: 23.22 and Long: 93.24," the National Centre for Seismology tweeted. The depth of the quake was 25 km and the epicenter was 39 km southeast of Thenzawl in Mizorams Serchhip district, it said.

Two earthquakes struck Mizoram on Sunday and Monday, causing damage to houses and cracks on roads at several places and prompting the government to sound a rain and landslide alert. A 5.1-magnitude tremor rocked Saitaul district at 4:16 pm on Sunday, followed by a 5.3-magnitude quake in Champhai district at 4.10 am on Monday. No casualties have been reported.

Several houses and buildings in Champhai, including two churches in Zokhawthar, have been damaged in the quake, an official said, adding that the tremors caused cracks on highways and roads at several places.
