Mild to moderate symptoms are being observed in about 80 percent of the people who have Covid 19. These symptoms can include dry cough, sore throat, pain in the chest while coughing and pneumonia in some cases.
However, you will be surprised to know that even before you can notice these symptoms, 25 percent of your lungs are already infected with the virus. In order to fight back, the lungs and airways tend to swell and become inflamed.
One can know their lungs have been infected or not by observing if you are facing breathing problems. You are advised to consult a doctor immediately if there is swelling or strong pain in the lower portion of the lungs.
Talking about the complications, the virus can cause acute respiratory distress and even total collapse of the lungs in some severe cases.
The health of the lungs are determined based on two functions namely lung capacity and processing of oxygen and its distribution to the body.
During this serious phase the nation is going through when there is lack of oxygen cylinders and beds in hospitals improving lung function should be the main aim. One can improve the functioning of lungs by following the below mentioned tips:
1. Do physical exercises every day for a minimum of 30 minutes for adults and 60 minutes for children.
2. Try running, brisk walking, cycling or swimming in your free time.
3. Take proper nutrition and consume foods that are high in antioxidants like bananas, grapes, apples, tomatoes etc.
