CBSE Class 10 Board Exam 2020: If you are not interested in studying mathematics, you don't need to pursue it under any pressure! From 2020, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to introduce two separate mathematics papers for class 10 students. One paper will be of 'Basic Mathematics' and the second will be 'Standard Mathematics'. According to a report by Hindi daily Hindustan, CBSE class 10 students, who don't want to study Mathematics further, can opt for 'Basic Mathematics' paper at the time of registration for the board exam. Those who want to pursue Mathematics further will be able to opt the 'Standard Mathematics' paper.
According to the report, the board has clarified that students opting Basic Mathematics in class 10 will not be able to study mathematics in class 11. In case, they change their mind after the board exams, they can opt for mathematics paper in class 11 only after clearing the class 10 compartmental exam. If a student scores good marks in basic maths in class 10 and wants to study the subject in class 11 then s/he will have to appear in class 10 compartmental exam held in July.
Syllabus, books and question papers
The syllabus and books for basic and standard mathematics papers will be same. However, question papers will be different. The basic mathematics paper will have very easy questions while the standard mathematics paper will have concept-based and tough questions.
