GVK Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) managing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), India’s busiest single runway airport, introduced additional direct flights to the USA. Previously Air India and United Airlines operated direct flights from CSMIA to the USA, the airport welcomed Delta Air Line’s flight on Mumbai (BOM) – New York’s JFK (USA) – Mumbai (BOM) route. This daily non-stop 16-hour flight from Mumbai to New York-JFK hub offers easy access to passengers to United States of America, Latin America and Canada with more than 50 onward destinations.

The city of New York is the most common business travel destination, the direct flight connects financial capital of United States and India, linking New York-JFK and Mumbai with the only nonstop service by a U.S. carrier. In addition to JFK, Mumbai Airport currently offers 02 daily flights to Newark and witnesses an average of 3 lac passengers to USA from Mumbai.

The daily direct service from Mumbai to New York’s JFK recommenced operations after a decade of flying into the city. Delta Air Lines which previously flew non-stop from JFK to Mumbai in 2006 stopped their operations in November 2008. The airline then shifted its operations to Hartsfield - Jackson Atlanta International Airport, however, due to low passenger demand, it stopped the route in October 2009. Delta Air Lines then served Mumbai from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol but had to shut down on the operations owing to a stiff competition from Gulf carriers offering one-stop US-India services.

Since FY 2018-2019, Mumbai International Airport expanded its reach by introducing new airlines like Virgin Atlantic, , Jazeera, RwandAir, Air Tanzania, Star Air, and Uzbekistan Airways, amongst others.

Additionally, in the last 12 months, the airport also introduced new routes to destinations like , Tashkent, , Phuket, Guangzhou, Male, and Dar Es Salam connecting Mumbai to major destinations in the country and around the  world.
