Delhi coronavirus weekend curfew latest news: To be removed soon? What we know so far
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday sent a proposal to the Lieutenant Governor in seeking to remove the weekend curfew in the national capital.
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday sent a proposal to the Lieutenant Governor in seeking to remove the weekend curfew in the national capital. The plan to lift the city's weekend restrictions comes as the number of new coronavirus cases in Delhi has decreased in the recent days.
In the proposal, CM Arvind Kejriwal also requested that the odd-even system in marketplaces be abolished and private offices be allowed to function at 50% capacity.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) had previously imposed a weekend curfew in the city from 10 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday, following an increase in COVID cases. The administration has decided to loosen the restrictions after seeing a decrease in daily COVID positive cases in Delhi.
In the last few days, the daily number of COVID cases and the positive rate have both decreased.
According to data published by the municipal health department on Thursday, Delhi had 12,306 new COVID-19 cases and 43 deaths, with a positive rate of 21.48 percent.
On January 13, the city has documented 28,867 COVID cases with a 29.21 positive rate, the highest single-day increase since the pandemic began.
Last week, the figure dropped to 24,383, 20,718 on Saturday, 18,286 on Sunday, 12,527 on Monday, and 11,684 on Tuesday.
