Delhi Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted overcast skies, light rain, or thundershowers for Delhi. On Friday, the IMD predicted rain, hail, and strong gusts of wind of 30 to 40 mph. It's predicted that there won't be much rain on Saturday either. For Delhi on Thursday and Friday, the IMD has issued a "yellow" signal, which is an advisory to "be aware."  The minimum temperature settled at 18.8 degrees Celsius while the maximum is expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius. According to the data by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9 am stood at 175 (moderate category). An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe. The relative humidity at 8.30 am was 70 per cent, the IMD bulletin said.

Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and East Madhya Pradesh isolated thunderstorms with lightning/gusty winds & Hailstorm on and over. Light/moderate rainfall/thundershowers were observed at most places over Arunachal Pradesh; at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe. 

Northwest India has received rain this month as a result of many western disturbances. Till Wednesday, the Safdarjung weather station, which provides a marker for the city, had recorded 28.3 mm of rainfall, an excess of 75% over the normal of around 16.2 mm till March 29. The weather observatory at Palam has recorded an even higher amount of 68.1 mm this month, marking an excess of 376 per cent. This is in contrast to the dry February that Delhi saw with no rainfall at all. 

The IMD has expected scattered to widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and isolated hailstorms for the area on March 30 and 31 over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan. 

Delhi Weather Update: Flights diverted

A total of nine flights were diverted from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) to Jaipur on account of bad weather in the evening, according to an airport official.
