Delhi weather today: IMD predicts rain for next few days - check full forecast here

Delhi weather today: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms/lightning at isolated places over Jammu Kashmir, HP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, UP and west Rajasthan. Hail over Uttarakhand and east UP and gusty winds (40-50 KMPH) over UP.  A fresh spell of rain, and thunderstorm hailstorm activity over Northwest India from March 23 to March 25. The IMD on Monday said that Delhi received the highest 24-hour rainfall for March in the past three years, recording 6.6 mm precipitation in just three hours 

Delhi's primary weather station, the Safdarjung observatory recorded 6.6 mm of rainfall. The rain was accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds up to 32 kilometres per hour and thunderstorms, the weather office said. 

Maximum temperatures are in the range of 22°C over Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Northeast states. Maximum Temperatures are 7-10°C below normal over Bihar, north Chhattisgarh; 4-7°C below normal over rest parts of the country except Tamilnadu, Kerala, South Karnataka, south Gujarat and Westcentral India. 

Crop damage due to rain, thunderstorms 

Unseasonal rains accompanied by strong winds reported from most parts of Uttar Pradesh in the past two days have caused considerable damage to crops, mainly wheat. Crops have been flattened in the fields due to the heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds. However, some agriculture experts are of the view that there will be only partial impact on the crop, but more rain at this stage could be harmful and will delay the harvesting. Rains and hailstorms have also hit chickpea and potato crops, farmers said. Vegetable cultivation has also been affected in places where fields have become water-logged. The situation, however, could worsen for the farmers since the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall this week.
