Delhi government blames Centre, neighbors for pollution; GRAP 4 restrictions tightened

Delhi’s Environment Minister, Gopal Rai, has accused the Centre and neighbouring states of not taking sufficient measures to control pollution, despite progress made by Punjab over the last two years. The allegations and counter-allegations between the Delhi government and other authorities continue even after the Supreme Court’s stern reprimand on the issue.  

Rai stated that the Center has yet to discuss artificial rain as a potential solution to the capital’s severe smog conditions. “The Environment Minister did not give time to address this matter,” he said.  

During a meeting, the Delhi government instructed officials to strictly implement the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage 4 restrictions and ensure mandatory compliance. Key decisions taken during the meeting include making masks compulsory for Class 10 and Class 12 students. The government will review further actions based on the Supreme Court's directions.  

On the Odd-Even vehicle scheme, Rai clarified that no decision has been made yet. He emphasised that artificial rain or a change in wind patterns would be necessary to alleviate the current smog crisis.  

The escalating air pollution remains a critical concern as Delhi struggles to breathe clean air amidst the blame game between stakeholders.
