The newly constructed terminal comes after a part of the roof of New Delhi Airport fell due to severe rain, killing one man and injuring eight others in June this year. Due to which all departures from Terminal 1 are temporarily suspended.

"Delhi Airport is glad to announce the operationalisation of new Terminal 1 from August 17, 2024. The state-of-the-art Terminal 1 will significantly boost our capacity, easing pressure on Terminals 2 and 3. Passengers can expect a smoother travel experience with improved amenities and advanced technology," said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO-DIAL.

The new terminal was developed as part of the Phase 3A expansion project by DIAL and inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 10 this year.

DIAL collaborated with IndiGo and SpiceJet to prepare for transferring flight operations from T2 and T3 to T1. SpiceJet's 13 flights will transfer to Terminal 1 on August 17, followed by IndiGo's 34 flights from T2 and T3 to T1 on September 2, according to a GMR statement.

Departures and arrivals

All SpiceJet customers will enter through Entry Gate A on the ground floor. IndiGo passengers will access the new terminal at Entry Gates 5 and 6, located on the first level. All passenger arrivals will go via designated arrivals on the ground level.

For arrivals, passengers would have to take the same arrival route to come out of the terminal.

Connectivity

The terminal is well connected to Delhi Metro's Magenta Line for both arrivals and departures. The state-run Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) provides frequent bus service. T1 is connected to terminals 2 and 3 via a shuttle bus service provided by DTC.
