Cyber crine: Govt rolls out scheme to deal with the meance in coordinated, effective manner
The Central government has launched Cybercrime reporting portal to enable citizens to report online content pertaining to Child Pornography/ Child Sexual Abuse Material or sexually explicit content such as Rape/Gang Rape.
In order to deal with cyber crime incidents effectively in the country, the government has formulated a 7-pronged strategy, and rolled out a scheme for the period 2018-2020. Ministry of Home Affairs has rolled out a scheme ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C)’ for the period 2018-2020, to combat cyber crime in the country, in a coordinated and effective manner, said Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy, in a written reply to question in the Rajya Sabha today.
G Kishan Reddy stated that the Central government has launched Cybercrime reporting portal to enable citizens to report online content pertaining to Child Pornography/ Child Sexual Abuse Material or sexually explicit content such as Rape/Gang Rape. It has also taken steps to spread awareness on cyber crime, issue cyber related alerts/ advisories, capacity building/ training of law enforcement officers/ judges/ prosecutors, improving cyber forensics facilities etc. to prevent cyber crime and expedite investigations.
According to G Kishan Reddy, 'Police’ and ‘Public order’ are state subjects as per the Constitution of India. States/UTs are primarily responsible for prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of crimes through their law enforcement machinery. The Law Enforcement Agencies take legal action as per provisions of the law against the reported cyber crimes.
The MHA scheme having seven components is given below:
1. National Cybercrime Threat Analytics Unit.
2. National Cybercrime Reporting Portal.
3. Platform for Joint Cybercrime Investigation Team.
4. National Cybercrime Forensic Laboratory Ecosystem.
5. National Cybercrime Training Centre.
6. Cybercrime Ecosystem Management Unit.
7. National Cyber Research and Innovation Centre.
